Nigel Cabourn needs very little introduction, but deserves one nonetheless: having over 50 years experience designing and working in the menswear industry, with multiple decades-old brands and international stores with cult followings under his belt. His eponymous brand has a focus on practical and hard-wearing textiles from vintage workwear, producing inspired takes on classic military apparel from the last century.
The Railman Denim Pants take inspiration from both French and American workwear, with a fit that borrows details from the former, and a fabric that takes from the latter. Modeled after a pair of French Railworker's trousers from around the 1920s, they feature a high rise and relaxed fit, with wide, straight legs, a roomy top block, and a split waistband with a buckle back.
They're made from a custom selvedge denim in a green/beige finish, woven with an uneven and slightly textured hand most characteristic of American denim from around the second World War, when rationing placed limitations on production consistency. As such, it will age beautifully over time, developing unique fades and textural variety throughout as a result of wear and washing.
Speaking of washing, this is a RAW and UNSANFORIZED fabric, meaning that it will shrink between 1 and 2 FULL SIZES after the initial wash, shortening in length and coming in at the waist. Because of this, every pair is cut large, and is intended to shrink to tag size after a wash. Temperature plays a big part in the amount of shrinkage, so we suggest using cold water for less and warm/hot water for more shrinkage - as well as hanging to dry.
They're finished with custom hardware throughout - from the button fly to the suspender tabs around the waistband. The legs feature a classic selvedge outseam, and all the pockets are reinforced with external rivets, for a more vintage feel.
Shrink to fit fabric - cut large and will shrink to tag size after washing. Wash cold, inside out, and hang dry.
