Product details
From Victorian era curiosities to early 20th century equestrian and motorcycle wear to rare WW2 era items - Black Sign garments are beautifully constructed, with a shared identity and aesthetic cohesion running through the collection to a degree we rarely see in brands focusing on reproductions & recreations.
Black Sign's Surgeon Shirts are much more of a fusion that a reproduction, combining Japanese Dabo shirts with European military apparel (specifically medical shirts) to create a relaxed and casual layering piece. It's cut with a relaxed body and collarless v-neck, featuring 3/4 length sleeves and two slanted hand pockets just above the hem.
It's made from a roughly woven 100% linen kasuri fabric, with a cool, dry hand that breathes easily and feels great when temperatures rise. The design depicts an assortment of different animals performing human tasks - rabbits, monkeys, and frogs hunting, playing music, and running free. This motif has appeared frequently, particularly on traditional yukata fabrics, for hundreds of years.
The relaxed body and shortened sleeves make this an ideal layering piece, sitting comfortably on top of lighter knits and beneath any outerwear, adding a pop of visual interest with its detailed pattern. Otherwise, it's a great normal shirt, with a slightly rounded hem and tonal mother-of-pearl catseye buttons up the placket.
Fits true to size. Wash cold and hang dry.
