11.11 is an exceptional label, with an ethos that strongly aligns with the S&S call to own fewer, better things — producing slow-fashion garments deliberately and sustainably across a network of local artisans and craftspeople throughout India. Everything they make is truly unique, with an undeniably natural and "human" element, from their patchwork and kantha embroidery, to the irregular nature of their low-tension handwoven textiles, to the tie-dye and natural indigo finishes, all of which will patina beautifully over time.
The Nick Bomber is an informal and civilian take on the classic military bomber jacket, with a blouson fit and pointed collar. It's cut with a relaxed body, wide sleeves and knit ribbing at the cuffs and hem to emphasize the silhouette. For storage, there are two slash handwarmer pockets right above the hem on each side of the jacket, and the placket closes up with a solid YKK zipper for a contemporary finish.
Inside, the body has a clean interior, with fully finished seams and a partial lining made from a lightweight cotton twill. The body fabric is entirely handwoven, even down to the yarns, which are handspun on a single spindle Gandhi charkha - a hand-operated spinning wheel used to turn bundled fibres into fine yarns without the use of electricity. These individually spun yarns vary in thickness and texture throughout creating an even more pronounced textural variety when paired with the hand weaving process that turn these yarns into fabric.
The exterior uses a yarn-dyed cotton stripe denim fabric, with a turquoise finish produced with natural indigo & other botanical dyes. Over time, the non-stripe portions will fade, growing lighter and developing a unique patina for each wearer. According to 11.11, it takes nine artisans roughly 16 and 1/2 hours to produce one of these jackets from start to finish.
True to size. May crock or bleed indigo onto other surfaces initially. Dry clean or spot clean.
