Nigel Cabourn needs very little introduction, but deserves one nonetheless: having over 50 years experience designing and working in the menswear industry, with multiple decades-old brands and international stores with cult followings under his belt. His eponymous brand has a focus on practical and hard-wearing textiles from vintage workwear, producing inspired takes on classic military apparel from the last century.

A slightly more dressy (but no less hard-wearing) trouser inspired by French workwear from the 1920s/30s, with a high rise, double-pleated legs, and a tapered fit with a crease for extra formality. They've got an extremely flattering silhouette, with a fitted waistband that lacks any sort of yoke beneath it, which further accentuates the roomy top block with its large pleats and darted rear. Beneath that, the legs taper naturally to an agreeably slim opening that still fits over your favorite boots without issue.

They're made from a textured hemp/cotton twill, woven from irregular black and brown yarns that give the entire thing a subtle salt-and-pepper finish with a slightly warmer hue. Soft and sturdy, it's excellent for hot weather, as hemp tends to breathe more easily and dry more quickly that similar fabrics made exclusively from cotton.

The finishing details aren't overly grandiose, with simple belt loops, a zip fly, and two external fly buttons for a more humble and austere impression. The waistband is lined with a cotton HBT (herringbone twill) for additional comfort, and six suspender buttons also hide inside should belts feel too pedestrian.
