Product details
Déborah Sitbon Neuberg founded De Bonne Facture to create purposeful clothing made with transparency and sustainability in mind. The line showcases small ateliers, primarily throughout France, but additionally around a few other parts of Europe — each one specializing in the product they craft. The line is nostalgic, reverential towards well made and well-worn menswear classics, and leaning into a more casual aesthetic for their beautifully-tailored designs.
De Bonne Facture take sustainability extremely seriously, with a design philosophy that relies on five pillars — "garment durability, atelier traceability, fabric provenance, the ecological impact of our supply chain, and the preservation of industrial know-hows". Their garments are built to last, using high end materials that will improve with time as they wear in, developing unique character with time.
The Balloon Trousers are De Bonne Facture's take on a vintage French carpenter trouser, with a relaxed taper "balloon leg" fit and a high rise. The waist is fitted, with a roomy top block and exaggerated thighs that taper slightly towards a more moderate leg opening, giving it a more natural shape that styles well with a wide variety of different shoes and tops.
They're made from a heavyweight cotton drill, woven in Turkey from 100% American cotton that's certified by the Oeko Tex Standard 100, meaning it's completely free of harmful chemicals or substances. The fabric is dense and sturdy feeling, better described as robust or substantial than as stiff. It's got a tight twill face, resistant to wind and a good insulator, with a surprisingly soft and comfortable hand.
For storage, there's a full five pockets — two slash pockets for your hands, two welted pockets on the back, and a covert coin pocket just beneath the front right belt loop (right if you were wearing the pants, left if you're looking at photos of them online). They've got a zip fly and a real horn button closing up the front, six belt loops around the waist, and cotton pocket bags.
Fits true to size. Wash cold and hang dry.
