Description
In addition to knitwear, Merz also produce a line of woven garments, including trousers, shirts, and jackets among other styles. The 1940s Wide Leg Chinos are one of our favorites in the current Merz b. Schwanen lineup, with a relaxed, comfortable fit and excellent construction.
They're cut with a high rise and a fairly roomy top block, with pretty wide straight legs that drape nicely thanks to the amount of volume. They aren't over the top though, a very tasteful and classic wide leg, inspired by US Military chinos from the 1940s. They've got four pockets (two for your hands on the front, and two welted rear pockets), with a zip fly and plenty of belt loops.
The fabric is a 12oz organic cotton broken twill, meaning that the fabric is woven in a way that prevents it from slowly twisting over time, as all other directionally-woven twill fabrics will to some degree. It's immediately comfortable, soft to the touch, and just the right weight to wear most of the year, excepting maybe the hottest and coldest days or months.
Fits true to size. Wash cold and hang dry.
