The grain texture of horsebutt leather is highly variable, and may differ noticeably from boot to boot. We cannot ensure your boots will have more or less grain than what is photographed, and all pairs will be entirely unique. Caveat emptor.
Like so many of our favorite brands, Attractions was born from an appreciation of vintage clothing. Originally founded in 2006, Attractions began as a vintage reseller, importing pieces from the United States and UK before starting their own production in 2011. Their experience in the vintage world provided them with the knowledge and inspiration necessary to develop their own styles, growing into an impressive and unique brand in a market saturated with alternatives.
With a deliberate focus on highly specific and often obscure styles from the last hundred years, Attractions produce some truly stellar and unique pieces, occupying a stylistic wheelhouse closely adjacent to "biker" but plainly distinct from other similar repro brands. Inspired by the progression of youth culture and style, Attractions infuse their own unique perspective into both the pieces they design and the ways they design them.
Run by a small team, Attractions produce (relatively) tight collections with fewer styles than many other brands, and outsource the logistical aspects of production to specifically selected factories around Japan. The reduced strain from not having to wrangle production allows Attractions to prioritize development, releasing exceptional styles in materials that can't be found anywhere else.
With a sleeker design and profile than Attraction's Lot 444 engineer boots, the Pioneers feature an unstructured toe and minimal contrasting details, taking inspiration from some of the earliest iterations of engineer boots to hit consumer markets. Based specifically on 1930s era (motorcycle) riding boots, these are a much dressier engineer, with a unique vamp and heel construction evocative of western roper boots.
The unique vamp construction comes together at the back of the shaft, with a flared reinforcement that runs the full height of the upper. Despite their visual sleekness, the Pioneers are among the roomiest fitting of Attractions' engineer boots, with slightly less shaping through the foot (relative to their other models), a more relaxed instep, and a low volume toebox.
These are made from an all black horsebutt leather sourced from Italy's famous Guidi Tannery. Known for producing some of the best horsehides in the world, Guidi specialize in vegetable-tanning, a slow and organic process that turns hides into leather through the use of bark & plant tannins and oils instead of chemicals or heavy metals. The end result is generally a stiffer leather that can be best characterized by its remarkable break-in, as vegetable tanned leather will relax dramatically over time, moulding to the shape of the wearer's foot and gait.
It's fully "murdered out" with an all black finish and trims, from the edge stain to the sand-cast iron buckles (which are coated with a black finish), to the made in USA Vibram outsoles and heels. The midsoles are made from the highest quality Oak bark tanned leather available, which combines durability with flexibility for maximum comfort. Even the welt is stitched with all black thread, giving these an additionally sleek and dressy appearance that can be dressed up with ease.
