W'Menswear was founded by Lauren Yates in 2015, born out of a desire to produce high-quality, heritage-inspired garments for women — with a nuanced and ever-evolving perspective on femininity at the intersections of fashion, workwear, military garments, and history. Originally operating out of a converted shipping container in Bangkok, the brand has grown substantially with each new collection, employing specialty and custom fabrics as well as partnering with local workshops and artisans.
The Spring/Summer 2025 collection is titled "Spinning For A Revolution," and draws inspiration from early women's cycling apparel, suffragette cyclists from the late 1800s, and the writings of Dervla Murphy — whose stories detailed her solo bicycle journey from Ireland to India in the early '60s. Following its invention, women began to enjoy unexpected new freedom through bicycle travel, allowing them to access social spheres and spaces outside of the home, and freeing them from the restrictive dress norms of the era.
The W'Menswear x Kardo capsule collection brings the strengths of both brands together, riffing on familiar silhouettes from W'Menswear's line with handwoven textiles, natural dyes, and atelier-style construction.
"Natural dyes and handwoven textiles have embodied a woman's relationship with Mother Nature for thousands of years. They are powerful portals that women have used to tell stories through the ages. Continuing this legacy is our small contribution to Indian wisdom crafts."
The Summer Fortune Pocket Dress is a full-length dress with a subtle A-line silhouette and a band collar neckline as well as a bunch of pockets. The fit is relaxed, with short sleeves and a breezy body — the pleated ruffle hem helps give a bit more drape to the entire garment, and the seven external pockets all close with solid brass buttons.
It's made from a from a combination of two different handwoven cotton fabrics, a green resist-dyed fabric and a red/green check plaid fabric. Both are lightweight and extremely soft, breathing well but still feeling substantial. The neck closes up in the back with a single custom Kardo button.
Fits true to size. Wash cold and hang dry.
