MotivMFG is headed by Samuel Wei, founder of Radiance Blue and the pioneer of the heritage market in China; and Daniel Gu, a third-generation tailor and designer. Together, they combine old-world tailoring (from various antique European manuals) with workwear production techniques. Constant research into garment production techniques around the world informs their design, with the goal of recreating, as opposed to just reproducing.

The Vector Bomber is a contemporary flight jacket with some very thoughtful details and a weather-ready construction. Take the shoulders, for example, which feature external patches for durability that help keep rainwater out of the seams underneath them, or the front pockets - trimmed in wool for abrasion resistance and a little extra warmth. The hem, collar, and cuffs are all trimmed in a 100% wool knit for maximum comfort and thermal regulation as well.

Made from a totally custom waxed cotton fabric, developed exclusively for MotivMFG by Halley Stevenson in the UK, these are a medium-lightweight (270gsm) fabric with a smooth texture and excellent water resistance. It's a remarkable fabric, with the softness and drape of a standard twill, that will develop a dramatic patina upon washing and with wear. The "Lava" orange colorway has been washed once, and is prone to crocking initially - Motiv also expect this fabric to bleed significantly during washing, and recommend only cleaning with like colors.

It's got a pretty classic fit, with a relaxed and slightly cropped torso, full sleeves, and a comfortable stand collar. In addition to the two external pockets, there are two more on the inside, with custom snap closures. The front placket zips closed, and then buttons over that with all custom hardware (even down to the leather pull tab on the zipper). The inside features a lightweight cotton lining as well, maintaining a healthy degree of separation between your skin and any sort of waxed canvas fabric.
