IssueThings is a brand worth checking out — it's difficult to find, especially outside of Japan, with fantastic design and a level of quality that exceeds our already high standards. Originally founded in 2020, their pieces are unisex, often coming in only one size and cut generously for a relaxed fit, with contemporary styles inspired by everything from countercultural youth movements to vintage military surplus.
The Type 79 Jacket takes some cues from military parkas and shell jackets, with a voluminous body and a protective stand collar. It's got a highly wrinkled and "weathered" texture, achieved through a washed finish that shrinks the jacket's lining significantly and induces puckering at the seams — further emphasizing the well-worn aesthetic. The hem is left raw, with an unattached lining near the lower ends of the jacket that are intended to fray with time.
It's made from a high density 100% cotton fabric, woven tightly to prevent the penetration of water and wind, that serves as an excellent shell when weather is mildly unpleasant. The dark brown fabric already shows subtle signs of fading after just a single wash, and will continue to develop a handsome patina over time, aging uniquely to each different wearer.
It's cut large, with an oversized fit intended for layering over other full outfits. There are two hand pockets for storage, and the front closes up with an easy four buttons.
