W'Menswear was founded by Lauren Yates in 2015, born out of a desire to produce high-quality, heritage-inspired garments for women — with a nuanced and ever-evolving perspective on femininity at the intersections of fashion, workwear, military garments, and history. Originally operating out of a converted shipping container in Bangkok, the brand has grown substantially with each new collection, employing specialty and custom fabrics as well as partnering with local workshops and artisans.
The Spring/Summer 2025 collection is titled "Spinning For A Revolution," and draws inspiration from early women's cycling apparel, suffragette cyclists from the late 1800s, and the writings of Dervla Murphy — whose stories detailed her solo bicycle journey from Ireland to India in the early '60s. Following its invention, women began to enjoy unexpected new freedom through bicycle travel, allowing them to access social spheres and spaces outside of the home, and freeing them from the restrictive dress norms of the era.
The Touring Dress takes inspirations from early 19th century women's apparel, cut at a mid calf length, with a pullover fit and adjustable drawstring hem. It's made more contemporary with its triple pocket chest, but keeps the neckline simple with a round collarless design. The sleeves have a slightly ballooned fit to emphasize the playful silhouette, and the hem features a ring of small pockets the entire way around, for some uniquely drape-altering storage.
It's made from a soft black linen/acetate blend fabric. Milled in Japan, it's soft and airy, with a luxurious hand feel and a gentle drape throughout. The neck closes up in the back with a single custom W'Menswear button, and the pockets on the chest are secured with textured snaps.
