Not every leather jacket has to be made from the stiffest horsehide you've ever seen in your life. Some leather jackets can be made from cowhide, and some leather jackets can be shirts. This leather jacket happens to be both of those things (a shirt made from cowhide), which seems entirely fitting given the western styling and details.
Wearing more like an overshirt than shirt-shirt, we recommend layering this item over something else, as if it were a jacket. You don't have to, but opting for this as a base layer is a very bold decision, and not one that we'll recommend to the average wearer. Plus, layering it over something else gives you the option to wear the shirt open or closed, and who doesn't love versatility?
The leather is a 1.3mm steerhide that's been tanned to feel like deerskin - with a supple drape and soft, broken-in feel from day one. We've never felt a western shirt like this. The leather is finished with a simple drum-dying process, where they're rolled around in large wooden barrels full of water and dye. This process is slow, more so than other dying and finishing techniques, but results in the full color and extra soft temper of the leather.
The lighter of the two options - the camel orange leather will darken over time in areas exposed to sunlight. The lighter tone of this steerhide will likely pick up unique marks and stains over the course of its life, developing in a more dynamic way than the black leather.
These run true to size, on the slimmer side. If you're in between sizes, we suggest taking the larger one. Do not wash, dry or dry clean.
