Description
The Van Cleef engineer boots were one of our original collaboration styles with Wesco, returning several times and with several updates over the last decade. The Van Cleef III has the most up-to-date fit and details, but one thing that never changes is the natural leather, selected because of how dramatically it ages with wear darkening through exposure to UV light, dirt, and oils.
Based on a 1930s style engineer boot from the Wesco archives, the Van Cleef series all feature triple needle stitching on the vamp and heel counter, double needle stitching on the top of the shaft, and our favorite — V-stitching on the back stays. Nordic brass buckles hold the straps together on top of a sturdy a Vibram 700 outsole and heel. Unlike the prior two editions, this one is a full 11” height.
Made using Wesco's bombproof and rebuildable stitchdown construction, the uppers are all made from a supple undyed essex leather from Horween in Chicago. This leather needs virtually no break-in, and is pretty much immediately comfortable on the foot. As an undyed leather, there will be natural variations in color, texture and grain, and there may be small marks, nicks, spots on the boots when new — this is normal, and is not a considered a defect or a blemish. Although the boots start out light, they will darken considerably from wear, developing a unique patina for each wearer over time.
We suggest choosing 0.5 size smaller than brannock for the best fit. Though these are labeled as E-width, they fit like a standard D-width boot.

These boots run 1 width narrow, meaning that the "E" width fits and feels like a standard "D" width. Contact us for help with sizing on these boots.
Choose 0.5 size smaller than your Brannock device size.
Choose the same size as your Red Wing Iron Ranger or Alden Barrie last size.
Choose 0.5 size bigger than your Viberg 2030 last size.
If you own a pair of Wesco 7400 or 7500 Engineer boots — choose the same size.
If your feet run wider than D width, choose a half size larger than our recommendation above.
