W'Menswear was founded by Lauren Yates in 2015, born out of a desire to produce high quality, heritage-inspired garments for women - with a nuanced and ever-evolving perspective on femininity at the intersections of fashion, workwear, military garments, and history. Originally operating out of a converting shipping container in Bangkok, the brand has grown substantially with each new collection, employing specialty and custom fabrics as well as partnering with local workshops & artisans.
Introducing the new Spring/Summer '24 Collection: Pawai Paratroopers - a celebration of Thailand's first group of female paratroopers, whose motto was "to prove that women can do anything as well as a man, no matter what affair. Whatever the task, be it on land, in water, or in the air." (Paratrooper Ampai Sombat, Freedom Magazine 1961). Through their action, these women became cultural figureheads of radical change during the 1960s, inspiring new attitudes towards women and social progress throughout Thailand.
The Ripcord Skirt is a lightweight shin-length skirt with a clean, pocketless design and zip waistband at the back. It takes its name from the bungee cord drawstrings at the hem, which can be used to tighten up the silhouette should the situation call for it.
It's made from a custom 95% rayon / 5% hemp textile that was designed by and woven exclusively for W'Menswear at a local mill in Thailand. Featuring hand-drawn indigofera branches (the plant from which indigo is derived, not the Swedish workwear brand) up the body, the contrasting bits use an indigo basket-weave design - collectively telling "the story" of Thai indigo-dyeing and cultivation. It's soft, lightweight, and breathable, perfect for summer months and hot weather, too.
Fits true to size (see measurements for details). Wash cold and hang dry or dry clean.
