Description
GRÅBRODERN is a Swedish brand named with a Swedish word. Our best attempt at pronouncing it sounds something like "Groh-brud-urn," which isn't quite correct, but could probably be worse. The word translates to mean "gray brother," or "friar dressed in gray," but also refers to a neighborhood in the medieval town of Visby, on the island of Gotland in the Baltic Sea. This is where the brand takes its inspiration, blending contemporary Japanese takes on Americana with traditional Baltic workwear.
The Relaxed Hara Jean is a great loose-fit pair of classic 5-pocket jeans. They feature a roomy tapered leg, with a comfortable medium-rise top block and a full seat. These are only a slight exaggeration of a more classic taper, with a bit more room all around, leaving you with a pair of pants that fit over boots but still visually taper through the leg.
They're made from a heavily-textured 14.5oz Japanese selvedge denim, woven from 100% cotton yarns and featuring a highly slubby and irregular face. After finishing, the jeans are given a full wash cycle — this softens the fabric considerably, removing much of the excess indigo dye and handling the initial shrinkage of the textile, allowing you to throw these on right away without any extra work needed. Over time, the indigo will continue to fade, developing a unique patina as the highly varied fabric ages with wear.
They have all the classic blue jean details: selvedge leg outseams, custom brass rivets, five roomy pockets, a veg tan leather flasher, and heavy-duty chainstitch sewing throughout. Borrowing a detail from WWII-era denim, the pocket bags are made from a 100% cotton olive drab herringbone twill, which we always enjoy too.
These run large. We suggest most folks size down from their usual waist size, check our measurements before ordering. Wash cold and hang dry.
