Our best-selling Freenote fit of all time, the Portola was developed, in part, with our feedback. It has a comfortable mid rise, with a roomy top block and athletic thighs, with a flattering taper from the knee down. These are the sort of tapered fit that work for almost anyone, and even years later they continue to be a shop favorite.
The details are exactly what we've come to expect from Freenote: custom copper hardware, Japanese herringbone pocket bags, tonal "antique gold" selvedge ticker and all custom labels (woven and leather). Construction-wise there are no surprises either, with durable flat-felled seams and Freenote's signature 1/8" double needle stitching accents keeping the whole thing held together.
This batch is made from a custom 13oz Japanese denim, dyed with a lighter natural indigo warp and vintage-style beige weft yarns. Not only does it start out a little lighter than other raw denim jeans, but it'll produce more low-contrast vintage-style fades that look a little more worn in more quickly. The fabric is sanforized, and was finished for a rinse to help soften things up — so minimal shrinkage is expected with a cold wash and hang dry, and you should take your usual size.
Fits true to size. Wash cold and dry delicate or hang dry.
