Description
MotivMFG's Spring/Summer 2026 collection is titled "A.C.G.T." — referencing the four bases that make up a strand of DNA: Adenine, Cytosine, Guanine, & Thymine. The very conceptual title ties into the scientific inspiration behind the collection, which combines a set of unique and highly-technical fabrics with Motiv's usual stellar tailoring and design. The garments are somehow both old-world and futuristic, with riffs on familiar silhouettes and contemporary updates to classic styles that seem like they would feel equally appropriate in the Atomic Era of the late 40s as well as the distant 2100s.
The Pleat Denim Trousers combine several different early industrial manufacturing techniques — including a one piece fly, trapezoid belt loops, and faux yoke darts with a four pleat configuration. They're cut with a very comfortable and flattering high rise, a roomy-but-slimming top block (thanks to the pleats), and two handsomely-tapered legs. Sitting right at the intersection between tailoring and workwear, these are both functionally and stylistically versatile.
The fabric is completely custom, and one that Motiv have "painstakingly" developed in collaboration with the best narrow-loom weavers in China. This unique herringbone denim is woven on a special dobby weave loom from the 1950s, resulting in a more tactile and less "flat" hand. The fabric isn't sanforized as part of weaving, making it a more traditional shrink-to-fit denim that Motiv have finished with a wash to bring these down to size and remove that initial shrinkage, taking the guesswork out of sizing. The herringbone weave also helps the fabric breathe, and prevents excessive twisting over time.
The trims are pretty great too, from the custom metal hardware to the selvedge details and woven pocket bags. To top it all off, the entire garment uses single-needle construction, a serious feat and quite the tailoring flex from the small team at Motiv.
