Product details
Déborah Sitbon Neuberg founded De Bonne Facture to create purposeful clothing made with transparency and sustainability in mind. The line showcases small ateliers, primarily throughout France, but additionally around a few other parts of Europe — each one specializing in the product they craft. The line is nostalgic, reverential towards well made and well-worn menswear classics, and leaning into a more casual aesthetic for their beautifully-tailored designs.
De Bonne Facture take sustainability extremely seriously, with a design philosophy that relies on five pillars — "garment durability, atelier traceability, fabric provenance, the ecological impact of our supply chain, and the preservation of industrial know-hows". Their garments are built to last, using high end materials that will improve with time as they wear in, developing unique character with time.
One of De Bonne Facture's best-selling styles, the Painter Jacket is an in-between style that borrows details from classic French chore coats and refined dress shirts. Cut with a flat hem and three external pockets, it's just the right size and weight to layer almost all year long, comfortably fitting both over lighter knits and beneath heavier jackets.
It's made from a remarkably soft and lightweight 100% super 130S wool, an extremely comfortable and narrow weave that drapes beautifully. The wool comes from Australia and is woven into fabric in Italy. It's harvested from sheep not subjected to mulesing - an agricultural practice that involves removing a large chunk of wool-growing skin from the sheep's hindquarters to reduce risk of a pest infection called flystrike.
Completely unlined, the fit is somewhere between a chore coat and a button-down shirt, with mother-of-pearl buttons closing the sleeves and placket. It's produced by the atelier of Mr. João Nuno Luz in Fanzeres, Portgual.
