Description
MotivMFG's Spring/Summer 2026 collection is titled "A.C.G.T." — referencing the four bases that make up a strand of DNA: Adenine, Cytosine, Guanine, & Thymine. The very conceptual title ties into the scientific inspiration behind the collection, which combines a set of unique and highly-technical fabrics with Motiv's usual stellar tailoring and design. The garments are somehow both old-world and futuristic, with riffs on familiar silhouettes and contemporary updates to classic styles that seem like they would feel equally appropriate in the Atomic Era of the late 40s as well as the distant 2100s.
The Oblique Shorts an a very covertly complicated garment, in that their understated appearance hides the incredible tailoring details that they're just packed with. These are Motiv's take on an Eastern "Mien" fly construction, with a high rise, wide leg fit and two inverted pleats down the front that remind one of gurkha shorts. The waistband is secured with a wrapped front fly and integrated D-ring belt, allowing these to adjust through the waist and comfortably fit a significant range across each size without ever looking too large or too small.
These are made from an undyed silk/linen blend herringbone twill fabric that's pretty perfectly suited for the summertime. They're slightly dry to the touch, though the herringbone weave is exactly as soft and breathable as you'd expect it to be, resulting in an outstandingly comfortable fabric from the moment you put it on. It's got a subtle luster and a fluid drape — the blend of linen and silk gives the best of both worlds, with outstanding softness and a cool hand that feels great in hot weather.
