From Victorian era curiosities to early 20th century equestrian and motorcycle wear to rare WW2 era items - Black Sign garments are beautifully constructed, with a shared identity and aesthetic cohesion running through the collection to a degree we rarely see in brands focusing on reproductions & recreations.
The Neo Devil Dogs Coat is Black Sign's reinterpretation of a 1950s USMC snow parka, with an oversized A-line silhouette, a spacious hood, and plenty of pocket space. Beyond the more obvious details however, are what Black Sign have opted to change from the originals, adding a unique strap configuration inside the jacket that allows the entire thing to be taken off and worn around the shoulders like a backpack, for drying or cooling off.
It's made from an oiled 100% cotton fabric from British Millerain, a world-renowned manufacturer of oiled and waxed fabrics since 1880. This particular fabric is the flagship of Black Sign's "oiled cotton" series, finished with the mill's proprietary (and secret) solvent for water resistance, additionally imbuing the fabric with a unique texture that will patina dramatically over time, forming "chalk marks" and creases with wear. Slightly stiff at first, it's a pleasantly sturdy and robust fabric that will also relax with time, taking the shape of the wearer's body.
