Originally founded in 2006, Attractions began as a vintage reseller, importing pieces from the United States and the UK before starting their own production in 2011. Their experience in the vintage world provided them with the knowledge and inspiration necessary to develop their own styles, growing into an impressive and very special brand in a market saturated with alternatives.
With a deliberate focus on highly specific and often obscure styles from the last hundred years, Attractions produce some truly stellar and unique pieces, occupying a stylistic wheelhouse closely adjacent to "biker" but plainly distinct from other similar repro brands. Inspired by the progression of youth culture and style, Attractions infuse their own perspective into both the pieces they design, and the ways they design them.
The souvenir jacket is one of modern menswear's most iconic garments, whose history reaches from the 1930s through the Korean & Vietnam Wars and into the modern age. The cut is somewhere between workwear and military, like a simplified mechanic jacket with a spread collar, button front, and two chest pockets — as opposed to a varsity or sukajan style souvenir jacket.
It's made from a silky smooth 100% rayon twill fabric with a comfortable medium weight and a prominent shine across its face. Soft and pleasant against bare skin, it's got a fluid and bouncy drape throughout, selected for its resemblance to vintage rayon fabrics.
Obviously, we've got to talk about the embroidery, which was all done by hand using horizontal swing sewing machines by a team of extremely talented craftspeople. With extensive layering and detail throughout each individual section, the full details include two coiled dragons on the front of the jacket, another dragon on each sleeve and cuff, and a back depicting a dragon and tiger facing off. The front also includes subtle "Attractions" and "Tokyo" embroidery above each pocket.
The fit is easy, with a cropped body and a relaxed fit through the torso that can layer over light shirts and knits. It closes up with tonal covered buttons that sit under a hidden placket, with matching buttons closing up both cuffs, and an extended flap "belt" at the hem.
