Warehouse & Co was founded in 1995, becoming the final member of the Osaka 5 - the "collective" of Japanese clothing brands responsible for driving the vintage and selvedge denim boom of the 1990s. Founded by former Evisu and Full Count employees, the twin brothers Kenji and Kenichi Shiotani, Warehouse is known for their meticulous detail and considered construction.
Denime is another of the original Osaka 5, originally founded in Kobe, specializing in some of the most faithful and "cleanest" reproductions of classic American denim fits. They've partnered up with Warehouse to release two exceptional shrink-to-fit styles, following a decade of ownership changes and relative quiet in terms of production.
The Lot 224 "66 Model" Jeans are based on an iconic denim fit from midcentury America. Cut with a comfortable mid rise, they've got a straight tapered fit that very naturally follows the shape of a person's leg. They're as close as you can get to a brand new pair of 1960s jeans without actually getting a brand new pair of 1960s jeans, an exceptionally difficult task nowadays, since the 60s were apparently a long time ago.
They're made from a completely custom 100% cotton selvedge denim, unwashed and unsanforized for a true shrink-to-fit experience. The fabric was woven on a vintage Toyota (yes, that Toyota) GL3 power loom, Japan's first automatic power loom - capable of remarkably low-tension weaving, the GL3 is renowned for its slightly irregular weave and handsome textural variety. The specific denim used on the Lot 224 "66 Model" jeans is woven using the original fabric recipe and based on vintage reference samples, exactingly reproduced for maximum authenticity.
The finish is equally special, using an all-natural plant based indigo dye on top of a unique rope-dyeing technique that uses room temperature water to more strongly bind the dye to the yarns, creating a deeper and richer indigo that contrasts the off-white weft yarns handsomely. Over time, the fabric will fade as a result of wear and washing, with some of the most dramatic transformations occurring after the first wash - properly shrinking the fabric and bringing the raw indigo to life.
These are a RAW and UNWASHED fabric that is expected to shrink a full size or more after a wash. As such, we suggest going up 1-2 sizes from your usual waist for an optimal fit after washing. Wash cold for less shrinkage, wash hot for more. Hang dry.
