Description
Based out of Japan's Iwate Prefecture, one of the northernmost provinces, Gorsch was born into a quiet rural life, taking inspiration from antique German tailoring and early proto-workwear. The garments are beautifully constructed, frequently making use of deadstock vintage textiles, with tailored silhouettes and unisex styling.
Gorsch's Spring/Summer '26 collection is part 1 of their 14th release "season" — inspired by dancer and "movement artist" Ken Sakagami, a friend of the brand from nearby Morioka City. The styles and fabrics are really understated, with simple colors and subtle textures throughout, selected for drape and comfort rather than visuals, then cut into relaxed and flowing silhouettes that move beautifully with the wearer.
The Layered Front Jacket is a really interesting style, with the impression of the upper half of a 3-piece suit, cut collarless with a double-layered placket that looks like a separate waistcoat is on beneath the jacket, but is actually just a secondary closure for the jacket itself. It's a relaxed but elevated silhouette, with two gusseted hand pockets, and a large inverted pleat down the back for extra ease of movement.
It's made from a beautiful 100% linen tweed fabric, with an ivory color that's composed of several different colors of desaturated yarns woven together. With a very textured face, it's beautiful up close, and still visibly interested from distance, with a gentle luster across the body in natural light. Soft and breathable, it's a solid medium weight, with a more structured drape than most 100% linen fabrics and no lining through the body for extra comfort in hot weather. Inside, it's got a completely clean-finished construction, so that the quality of the tailoring meets the quality of the design and the materials.
