Description
Founded in 2016 by Christian Hofmann, whose experience includes a 12-year career at Ralph Lauren and a lifelong passion for the outdoors, Heimat Textil is based out of and produced in Germany. Every piece they make is built to last, with a solid construction that only gets better with time, softening and breaking in from wear. The company name, Heimat is a German word without a direct translation in English — best explained as a comfortable and secure feeling that comes from being where you belong.
Heimat's primary focus as a brand is quality, working with the very best materials and using the most sustainable production techniques to create heirloom-quality staples with German sensibilities. Their garments are made to be lived in, taken outdoors and subjected to the elements, keeping up with your lifestyle — whatever it may be. The designs are classic and stripped of excess, versatile by way of their minimalism, comfortably fitting into a wide variety of different wardrobes.
The Harbour Sweater is inspired by dockworker's jerseys from the early 20th century. Specifically modeled after the knits worn by the longshoremen of the Port of Hamburg, these lightweight layering pieces could earnestly be thought of as early "techwear," with a focus on performance over aesthetics. It's got a more tunic-adjacent fit, with a hand-stitched collar and sleeves, and raw edges at the hem and cuffs for a more simple silhouette throughout (and as a nod to the originals that inspired these).
Using special blended yarns, they're produced in an "extra-fine" 8-gauge knit, noticeably smaller and tighter than the usual 5-gauge used on many of Heimat's fall/winter knitwear. The 70% cotton / 30% linen composition of the yarns pair extremely well with the smaller knit, resulting in a sweater that's actually suitable for warmer weather — breathing well and drying quickly. Initially quite tight, these "break in" quickly with wear, relaxing throughout and taking the shape of the wearer's body.
Fits true to size with a snug, vintage fit. Hand wash cold and dry flat.
