W'Menswear was founded by Lauren Yates in 2015, born out of a desire to produce high quality, heritage-inspired garments for women - with a nuanced and ever-evolving perspective on femininity at the intersections of fashion, workwear, military garments, and history. Originally operating out of a converting shipping container in Bangkok, the brand has grown substantially with each new collection, employing specialty and custom fabrics as well as partnering with local workshops & artisans.
Introducing the new Spring/Summer '24 Collection: Pawai Paratroopers - a celebration of Thailand's first group of female paratroopers, whose motto was "to prove that women can do anything as well as a man, no matter what affair. Whatever the task, be it on land, in water, or in the air." (Paratrooper Ampai Sombat, Freedom Magazine 1961). Through their action, these women became cultural figureheads of radical change during the 1960s, inspiring new attitudes towards women and social progress throughout Thailand.
The Garden Dress is a relaxed A-line dress with a contrasting reinforced pocket hem, short sleeves, and an optional belt made from the same material as the hem. Wearable as either a dress or as light outerwear, the front closes with tonal buttons that extend down to about mid-thigh. It's also got two roomy bucket pockets right at the front, so you never have to sacrifice utility for style.
It's made from a custom 95% rayon / 5% hemp textile that was designed by and woven exclusively for W'Menswear at a local mill in Thailand. Featuring hand-drawn indigofera branches (the plant from which indigo is derived, not the Swedish workwear brand) up the body, the contrasting bits use an indigo basket-weave design - collectively telling "the story" of Thai indigo-dyeing and cultivation. It's soft, lightweight, and breathable, perfect for summer months and hot weather, too.
