Description
Gathering is a new addition to our lineup, first arriving at S&S in the later half of the Spring/Summer '26 season, with the initial drop landing at our Berkeley & NYC stores before making it to our website shortly after. It's a more obscure brand, hard to find information on and even harder to find in person, so we're glad to have Gathering on our shelves, and hope you'll have a chance to handle it personally, as we feel their styles are much easier to understand when they can be tried on and touched.
As Gathering themselves tell it, their primary project is textile research, work they're completing through garment production and "buttonology" — put more plainly, they're developing completely custom natural fabrics at small mills and local producers around the world, then finishing their garments with custom and bespoke trims to make pieces that are truly unlike anyone else. Based out of London, they don't limit themselves to sourcing from a singular specific nation or region, instead seeking out artisans across Africa, Asia, and anywhere else that small batch and hand-loomed organic fabrics can be made.
The Farmer Jacket is a unique twist on a chore coat, with a dramatic 6-button placket, an exaggerated, rounded collar, and two massive pockets for your hands and objects. It's super relaxed through the body, with deep slits at the sides and a back hem that is cut lower than the front, giving an even more casual and relaxed silhouette to the whole thing. It's also left unlined through the body, resulting in a more versatile and breezy fit that can be layered beneath easily, and helping keep you comfortable during hotter weather.
The "Light Monet" treatment is a hand-painted finishing process that is given to their medium weight organic cotton canvas fabrics at Gathering, a unique a highly variable process that results in an organic tie-dye appearance, no two of which are quite alike. The fabric is sturdy, with a more rigid and structured hand that will break in after a few wears, soften and relaxing noticeably. On top of that, the painted finish will also continue to develop, fading at different speeds and in different ways as the various dyes break down from washing and sunlight. It's finished with super unique shell buttons that feature a rough, irregular texture — the perfect pairing for such a special and interesting fabric.
