W'Menswear was founded by Lauren Yates in 2015, born out of a desire to produce high quality, heritage-inspired garments for women - with a nuanced and ever-evolving perspective on femininity at the intersections of fashion, workwear, military garments, and history. Originally operating out of a converting shipping container in Bangkok, the brand has grown substantially with each new collection, employing specialty and custom fabrics as well as partnering with local workshops & artisans.
The 2024 collection, titled Diesel Fueled Defiance, is inspired by women who were on the forefront of automobile racing during the Civil Rights movements of the 1960s. Facing down particularly fierce and widespread sexist sentiments, these women brought about advancement for all women through their relentless pursuit of speed and the feeling of adventure.
The Drag Shirt is a really elegant dress shirt with an extremely unique elongated tie-collar that extends beyond the hem of the shirt. The body is relaxed, with two chest pockets and roomy sleeves and custom metal buttons closing up the placket. The exaggerated collar can be worn down or tied in a variety of different ways thanks to the length of each "tail".
It's made from a deadstock black/gold Japanese stripe fabric made from a blend of linen and natural woodpulp-acetate with a great drape and really soft hand. It's got a smooth and formal texture, with a slight shine and pleasant structure that makes it great as a layering piece, but also extremely wearable alone.
Fits true to size. Wash cold and hang dry.
