Born from a mix of vintage sensibilities, practical need, & the sort of madness it takes to want to produce anything the right way—Papa Nui produces fantastic garments. Manufactured in Japan with the highest attention to detail and quality, each unique style has its own personality, and a deliberate story behind its creation.
Papa Nui's new Coral Cruiser Sunglasses are a stylish new accessory made possible through the wonderous technologies of yesteryear. Handmade start to finish in Japan's Sabae Prefecture, these are updated Aviator shades that take stylistic inspiration from vintage USN sunglasses, with a few contemporary tweaks and an upgrade from service-issue mil-spec to the best materials available.
Available in one size, they feature sturdy, green-tinted CR-39 lenses that offer both UV and IR protection. CR-39 was originally developed during the 40s as a shatterproof plastic that could be for fuel tanks inside B-17 bombers, as its significantly reduced weight increased flight range. It's both lighter than glass and scratch resistant, an excellent and durable choice for a hard-wearing pair of eyeglasses.
The "body" is made from a premium quality acetate, available in USMC Olive Drab and USN N3B Yellow, with stainless steel hinges and hardware keeping all the parts together. Every pair comes with a multi-piece carrying case consisting of a recycled army canvas snap pouch and a frogskin HBT sleeve, as well as a robust cardboard box and Papa Nui postcard.
