Description
MotivMFG's Spring/Summer 2026 collection is titled "A.C.G.T." — referencing the four bases that make up a strand of DNA: Adenine, Cytosine, Guanine, & Thymine. The very conceptual title ties into the scientific inspiration behind the collection, which combines a set of unique and highly-technical fabrics with Motiv's usual stellar tailoring and design. The garments are somehow both old-world and futuristic, with riffs on familiar silhouettes and contemporary updates to classic styles that seem like they would feel equally appropriate in the Atomic Era of the late 40s as well as the distant 2100s.
The Burokrat Jacket takes inspiration from Franz Kafka in multiple ways, firstly, in its similarities to the double-breasted jacket often worn by the writer himself, but also taking cues from the way Kafka described turn-of-the-century Imperial bureaucrats, resulting in a very unique cut for a DB jacket. The four buttons are stanced quite closely together, with horizontal peak lapels, two-button surgeon cuffs, and three external pockets, and a tailored fit through the torso with a double-vented back hem. There's a partial buggy lining inside for easy layering, as well as a hidden stabilizer button for when you want to wear this closed — but it's cut to wear equally well unbuttoned and open, so you can stay comfortable and switch up your look.
The fabric is a true vintage relic, originally produced in the 1980s and woven from 100% silk yarns. It's smooth, fluid, and highly detailed, with a neppy & irregular texture across the vertical stripe pattern, as well as a silky luster throughout. Easily one of the most interesting textiles we've handled, it has a distinctly sophisticated look to it, feeling pulled from the past but still at home in the present. The weave itself combines extra long warp yarns with more uneven "shuang-gong" (cocoon silk) weft yarns, giving stability to the finished product alongside the nep details.
