Description
MotivMFG is headed by Samuel Wei, founder of Radiance Blue and the pioneer of the heritage market in China; and Daniel Gu, a third-generation tailor and designer. Together, they combine old-world tailoring (from various antique European manuals) with workwear production techniques. Constant research into garment production techniques around the world informs their design, with the goal of recreating, as opposed to just reproducing.
Inspired by vintage British military thermal pants, the British Military Sweatpants are some seriously impressive casual wear. With an adjustable elasticated waist (with two side tab adjusters at the hips), these feature exposed fly buttons, and two very roomy patch pockets.
These are cut with a fantastic high rise, and an elasticated waistband that sits slightly above your natural waist (which is quite a bit above the hips). The athletic thighs taper nicely down to a slim leg opening with a hidden storm cuff. The waist on these measures smaller than it fits, and we've found these to fit just slightly smaller than true to size - going up one size from your usual is recommended (as the fit can further be adjusted with the side tabs at the waist).
The fabric is a remarkably thick and sturdy wool knit, created with a special boucle yarn that has been given a unique shrinking finish, imbuing it with a felt-like texture. Being made from 100% wool yarns, it insulates very well, with a fleecy softness that completely lacks any scratchiness that some wools are known for. The heavy weight and knit construction pair nicely as well, providing the sturdiness and appearance of a woven fabric with the comfort and forgivingness of pajamas.
