Designed in collaboration with Indigofera's good friend Coyote Thunder, aka Obi Kauffman, the artist/author/ecologist behind The California Field Atlas, The Coasts of California, The Deserts of California, The Forests of California, The State of Water, and the upcoming The State of Fire - you can find all his work here, on his website. Dreamt up after spending five days in the desert together, the pieces are natural and hard-wearing, built to hold up to the wilderness.
The Badlands Pants are inspired by a previous collaboration with Obi, the Wendell Pant, a style that went on to enter Indigofera's regular seasonal release rotation in different fabrics over the years. This new take features a slightly roomier fit throughout, with the same double knees but stripped of the tool loop and thigh pockets. They've got a high rise and straight leg, with two front hand pockets and two welted rear pockets for storage.
They're made from Smithson Canvas, a custom 13oz basket-woven cotton canvas developed and produced exclusively for Indigofera in Japan. Initially quite stiff and sturdy, it will break in over time and soften with wear, developing a more relaxed drape but never losing its hardiness.
For the Badlands Pant, Indigofera have combined white and ecru finishes for a two-tone design that emphasizes the double knees and waistband. These are sure to develop an advanced patina over time, as the light fabric combo will absorb color and darken over time, "staining" but in a cool, interesting way.
It's reinforced with custom Indigofera branded copper rivets and bar tack stitches at the bottom of the double knee - which is left partially open, allowing you to slide knee pads in if desired. The button fly also features a custom donut top button, and the tags are all woven for a more authentic finish.
