Description
The Real McCoy's leather jackets are produced to a standard higher than just about any other in the world. Even the carefully managed supply chains of the luxury houses can't touch what goes into each of these jackets. A deep obsession with quality over the entire life of a garment is what sets The Real McCoy's leather jackets apart from all others.
It begins at the Shinki tannery, where they have their own separate temperature and humidity controlled room to store the custom hides destined for their jackets. From there, each panel is cut from specific parts of the hide based on stretch, grain, and thickness, to match the needs of that area of the garment. Any thin areas or scars are rejected, to prevent failure a decade down the road.
After their dedicated cutter cuts the panels, every jacket is sewn at The Real McCoy's atelier in Kobe. A single craftsperson builds the entire jacket from start-to-finish, not meaning that only one person makes every jacket, but that each different jacket is made by just one operator. The other trims and details are also just as exacting, the hardware is custom produced to perfectly replicate the originals, from the belt buckles, to the bell-shaped Talon zipper, to the custom woven labels.
The Grizzly Jacket is one of the most serious and substantial leather jacket styles ever designed, with a heavyweight horsehide body and thick mouton sheepskin trims. The style peaked in the 1930s, just following the Great Depression, and marking an evolution from the more austere outerwear of the period. That said, the style first appeared a little earlier, debuting as a "Fur Blouse" in the 1910s, with a few notably different details, like a snap-closure placket and a knit wool collar.
The newest edition from the Real McCoy's might be the most premium and unique model of Grizzly Jacket we've seen, combining an outstanding aniline-finished brown horsehide leather with a ton of natural tonal variation and a pronounced pull-up effect, and a unique British Jacob sheep mouton that features a beautiful high-contrast "island" pattern. Thick, warm, and serious, it's a highly dynamic garment that will only get better and better with time!
As a result of the natural materials, no two of these will be quite alike, as the texture, color, and patterns of the horsehide and mouton vary, coming from different and unique animals. Inside, the jacket is lined with a wool houndstooth fabric, a heavyweight "gun club check" cloth that insulates well on top of everything else.
Besides that, it's got a few other trims worth mentioning — knit wool storm cuffs and adjustable sleeve openings, a half belt closure at the front, 100% cotton thread, and custom woven labels throughout.
