Description
Prequel is a modern brand working on historically-adjacent recreations. Using antique textile manuals & catalogs to recreate woven fabrics and patterns from the past, their designs take old-school silhouettes and bring them into contemporary life, updating the fit and shape to work in a more modern world. The end products aren't reproductions, but instead updates to classic styles that have only gotten harder and harder to find.
The 30's Rough Out Jacket is exactly what it sounds like, a 1930s-style "Sportswear" jacket (at the time "Sportswear" referred to clothing that was neither workwear nor formalwear — clothing for activities from running to driving) cut from a beautiful Japanese calfskin roughout. It's got a short-er torso, that we wouldn't go so far as to call "cropped," but it's definitely a touch shorter than most contemporary jackets are cut. The front features a zip placket, three button pockets, and a classic collar with a "chinstrap" detail.
The body is made from a soft calfskin roughout, the reverse side of smooth leather, in an orange/brown color. It's got a lot of tonal depth and variation, and will age beautifully over time as the leather breaks in and creases, wearing down in some areas and creating variations in the thickness of the nap (the suede texture). Inside, it's lined from a super long staple Pima cotton with an exceptionally soft and comfortable hand, making layering an absolute pleasure.
