From Victorian era curiosities to early 20th century equestrian and motorcycle wear to rare WW2 era items - Black Sign garments are beautifully constructed, with a shared identity and aesthetic cohesion running through the collection to a degree we rarely see in brands focusing on reproductions & recreations.
The Duce Coat is inspired by vintage car coats from around the time of the Ford Model B, back when you needed to be wearing a specific type of jacket to drive. With a fairly dense button placket, it's got a standard jacket collar and an angled hem, with two hand pockets for storage and a half-belted back. The multi-panel design is comfortably tailored, resulting in a garment that fits well but can still be layered under without becoming restrictive.
It's made from a tight-faced heavyweight double layer melton wool fabric — produced on an increasingly rare loom that creates the double layer fabric itself, rather than by combining multiple finished textiles or with the assistance of another machine. After looming, the fabric is given a felting treatment that shrinks the yarns, resulting in a more dense body and fleecy hand. It's thick, warm, and surprisingly soft, with lightweight melton wool and polyester melange linings, as well as tonal corduroy trims.
