Samuel Zelig is a brand to watch out for, featuring inspired riffs on workwear and sportswear classics that drip with personality - from every fabric to each individual embellishment. Either thanks to or in spite of their maximalist design, SZ pieces play well with others, blending extremely well with both the vintage styles that inspired them and more the more contemporary pieces they evoke.
Primarily focused on knitwear, SZ produce "Uniform" style basics with extensive customization and personality, with each patch or embroidery designed in-house for each specific garment. Thanks to their unique design and shocking versatility, Samuel Zelig pieces have become a staple around our shops, easily worn as statement pieces or intermediate layers without ever feeling out of place.
Inspired by vintage knitwear from the 40s and 50s, their quarter zip knit features an oversized fit, with ribbing at the cuffs and hems, as well as a spread collar. Not content to stop at just a nice fit and solid construction, it's been elevated with custom running stitch and chainstitch embroidery and printed designs throughout.
The Shadow Puppet 1/4 Zip takes its designs from antique Victorian shadow puppet guide books. These old manuals reportedly featured highly detailed illustrations of hands and simple black and white shadow patterns, which Samuel Zelig have replicated here with embroidery and printing respectively. Made from a 15oz, 100% cotton heavyweight french terry cloth from Japan - the fabric is unbrushed on the inside, for a more dry and airy hand. The neck closes up with a brass Riri zipper, and the whole thing has been treated with a vintage wash to remove shrinkage and provide the knit with a unique "worn" tint.
The construction is solid, from the inset sleeves to the double-needle coverstitched seams and twill tape collar reinforcements, it's built to last a long time. Cut with a relaxed fit throughout the body, it's a slouchy and comfortable garment that layers well both under and over your other favorite pieces.
