The Oxford Cloth Button Down shirt, or OCBD, is about as staple a piece of the American wardrobe as I can imagine – right up there with blue jeans. Thus, this shirt needs little by way of introduction.

Made in Canada, using a Japanese fabric, this particular OCBD is cut to a slim-straight fit and features a single chest pocket, button-down collar and slightly longer tail.

Beyond that, there’s not much more to say – it’s a Regular Shirt.

  • 8oz Japanese Oxford cloth
  • Single chest pocket
  • Button-down collar
  • Cold washin’ & no tumblin’
  • Made in Canada
  • Slim, straight fit

Canadians. They can be a bit weird. Poutine. The Red Green Show. Pineapple denim. Wait, what? Pineapple denim?

Founded by Brandon Svarc in Montreal, Naked & Famous specialize in finding denim fabrics that nobody else uses. From the aforementioned pineapple denim (which does contain 20% actual pineapple fiber), through glow-in-the-dark denim, through their infamous 32oz(!) raw denims, to really left-field choices, such as scratch-and-sniff denim. No, really.

Whilst it’s easy to get lost in the myriad of unusual fabrics, it’s important not to lose sight of the fact that none of this matters without a great fit – and, boy, does Naked & Famous’ clothing fit well.

Sourcing almost all of their fabrics from Japan, Naked & Famous somehow manage to keep their price point at a level that belies the amount of thought and care put into each design, be it the denims at the core of their collection, or their shirting, knitwear and more. Even the simplest Naked & Famous t-shirt is constructed using a circular knit, eliminating the side seam entirely.

Speaking of simple, you’ll also notice that, despite the sometimes unconventional fabrics used, no pair of Naked & Famous denims ever looks ‘fussy’. No pocket arcuate stitching, no red tabs, no embellishments. Just a great-fitting, traditionally styled garment that happens to be made of a material that makes your jaw drop.
