Imagine someone that doesn’t hire tour guides in strange lands, preferring to just find his own way and engage with the locals. Rarely passing a flea market without stopping to browse, he knows where to get the best cơm tấm in Dien Bien Phu, and the best baklava in Beirut. I imagine that fellow wearing this jacket.

I feel that this jacket is the perfect blend of industrial design and handcrafting, having originally been something designed purely along the lines of function and mass-production, but then transformed into a one-of-a-kind garment.

The classic Mountain Parka silhouette is taken to somewhere entirely different with this iteration. Each piece is crafted from a single 1950s US Army Shelter Tent. The pattern is cut directly from the tent in such a way that each tent yields exactly one parka – meaning that no two are alike.

The cut features raglan sleeves with shoulder pleats, coupled with an arched, almost western-style yoke. The left chest pocket is welted and zippered, whereas the right chest pocket is patch-style, with a penholder slot and has a button closure. The hip pockets are both double-needle stitched patch pockets with pleats.

The main torso is unlined, although the sleeves do have a thin acetate lining for comfort. The parka uses much of the original tent hardware in it’s construction, from the key chain hook and the hanging loop on the back of the neck, to the snaps on the hem and wind flap.

I could go on and on and on about how great I think this piece is, but I’m running out of space here. This coat is fantastic. You should buy it. The end.
