Blluemade's Autumn/Winter '24 collection takes inspiration from vintage prep styles, specifically those of the 1970s, with an updated color palatte for a more sophisticated and contemporary feel. Though referential to aesthetics and styles of the past, Blluemade's new collection is more modern in execution, having "roots in nostalgia" as they put it. The fabrics are exceptional, with plush Italian corduroy and cotton velvet that are perfectly suited to cooler weather and layering.
The Hollywood Trousers are a fantastic vintage-style pant with all our favorite details, from the double pleated front to the wide straight legs, with the usual amount of pockets and a comfortable medium rise. They're cut with an old school wrapped Hollywood waistband, hence the name, and made from one of the nicest fabrics we've encountered this season.
They're made from a deep green Italian corduroy, woven from 100% cotton, with a wide wale and subtle shine across its surface. The "wale" of a corduroy fabric refers to the thickness of its vertical rows (called "wales"), where "wide-wale" generally refers to thicker and heavier fabrics, while "narrow-wale" usually indicates more narrow or micro-cords. As soft and warm as any other world-class corduroy, it's got a nice heft to it, with just enough drape and a handsome texture that will only get better with time, as the nap wears down in certain high-friction areas, and the texture slowly changes throughout.
The roomy fit pairs well with the heavier fabric, unrestrictive and comfortable from the moment you put them on. The trims are minimal, but always important - from the tonal fly button to the zip closure, to the extra thick 1940s style belt loops.
Each piece is designed in Brooklyn and then cut-and-sewn together in NYC's Garment District, at a family-owned and women-run workshop that Blluemade have been working with for years.
