The first Chelsea boot was put together in 1837, leveraging the new wonder material - elasticated fabric - of the time to create flexible side gores for easy on-off. This was a true revolution in boots, which had been closed up with hooks and loops (or buttons).

As with all John Lofgren boots, these are a heavier riff on the originals. The uppers are Horween Chromexcel, lined in Japanese cowhide, with heavy-duty elastic side gores. A 360 degree storm welt holds it all together and keeps your feet dry. Under the foot, USA-made Vibram 430 mini-lug soles keep you grounded.

Built on the John Lofgren 110 Last, the same last as their iconic Engineer boots (and Steadfast Chukka boots), these are the easiest-wearing Lofgren boots we carry. The ultra comfortable last, designed specifically for pull-on boots, is a perfect match for the short shaft and elasticated sides - these are easy to put on, take off, and so comfortable you'll never want to stop wearing them.

Timber CXL is a great warm brown leather with red undertones, with a noticeable pull-up characteristic. These have character right out the box, but over their lifetime they will darken to a noticeably deeper and richer brown, with highlights only peeking through where they're scuffed or where the leather is stretched the most.

These are built in one of the best boot factories in Japan, with every detail taken care of down to the padded leather heel pad.
