While we spend most of our time obsessing over American and Japanese denim, we've had an eye on Southeast Asia for a minute now, and Oldblue has had our attention from the get-go.

They've been turning out fantastic jeans since 2010, and we couldn't hold out any longer on adding them to our line-up.

The Indonesian-made 19oz denim is loomstate. At first glance, the denim is rather plain, but with some inspection, the slubby yarns and hairy texture come to the forefront. In keeping with the theme, the hickory stripe pocket bags, and the vegetable tanned patch are also both sourced from Indonesia.

When we asked Yax at Oldblue about the denim, this is what he had to say:

"The denim is in the loom-state condition. Loom-state denim, as the name implies, is denim that comes right off the loom with absolutely zero treatment. It's unsinged, unskewed, unsanforized, and surely, unwashed. Loomstate is the ultimate expression of the way denim was first made. It`s the purest and the `raw-est` form of denim. This is how all denim was produced up to the 1920s.

As a loom-state denim, this fabric has a very hairy texture. The indigo volume on this denim is on the lighter side. We think this is the most basic, simple, straight-forward denim we can offer. A loom-state, shrink to fit, regular-plain weave, right hand twill, plain selvedge line denim that will get its own characteristic with wears. It will shrink, it will twist, it will even get more hairy. The purest kind of denim pants."

The 8.25" cut is a clean, slim straight fit.  If you plan on washing/soaking these, size up 1, or go to true-to-size and don't wash them.

Further details

Founded in 2010 to produce simple, yet long-lasting heavyweight denim in Indonesia, Oldblue Co. has quickly become a favorite of in-the-know denim heads worldwide. One of the major highlights of the brand, beyond the impeccable workmanship, is the use of Indonesia-sourced 19oz heavyweight denim. The combination of true-to-source inputs, along with small batch production in their own workshop makes them a great addition to our lineup of denim.
