Since its founding 2001, designer Hiroki Nakamura's Visvim has built an extremely dedicated cult following. With a laser focus on crafting unique and high quality "future vintage" garments, Visvim has gained international acclaim over the past two decades for their unique perspective and exceptional design.
Not limited strictly to workwear or couture, they produce Folkwear, inspired by regional and historical manufacturing techniques from mud-dyeing to crocheting, with collections that build off of each previous year and develop holistically, season after season.
Visvim's Hammons Jacket is an elegant reimagining of an unstructured work sack jacket, a common element in many working-class uniforms during the early decades of the 20th century. Featuring a notched lapel and 3 button stance, the hem sits flat, with no vents, and minimal shaping or structure in the tailoring, giving a relaxed and draping fit to the otherwise boxy cut.
The fabric is exceptional - a cool brown wool/linen/cotton blend with subtle warm brown vertical pinstripes throughout. The blend drapes beautifully, and clocks in at a perfect medium-lightweight for transitional weather, any day you wouldn't describe as "cold" or "hot". Even still, the more open weave of the fabric as well as the linen content help the jacket to breathe even when temperatures do rise, pushing this further into the camp of a warm season garment.
Inside, the body is lined with a soft 100% rayon that breathes well and slides easily over anything layered beneath it. The sleeves are trimmed with a silk/cotton blend, that makes layering easy, but more importantly, it's soft and smooth without being clingy or slick, making it comfortable on bare skin and resistant to becoming hot or sticky during prolonged wear. The finer details, like the lining beneath the back collar, are trimmed in 100% cotton.
It's got a classic three pocket configuration on the front, two flap pockets for your hands and an open chest pocket, with two more hidden pockets inside the jacket. The front closes up with tonal buttons, as do the surgeons cuffs, the tailoring name for when a jacket's cuffs actually can be buttoned open or closed (as opposed to ornamental sleeve buttons).
