From Victorian era curiosities to early 20th century equestrian and motorcycle wear to rare WW2 era items - Black Sign garments are beautifully constructed, with a shared identity and aesthetic cohesion running through the collection to a degree we rarely see in brands focusing on reproductions & recreations.

For this exclusive collaboration, they've partnered with Clinch Boots. Clinch is made by BRASS, one of the first high-end shoe repair shops to open in Japan, owned and operated by Minoru Matsuura. Starting with simple shoe repairs, they quickly branched out - developing their own custom lasts and rebuilding vintage footwear, before eventually developing their own in-house line.

The meeting of their minds has resulted in the most impressive boots we've ever seen: the Transcontinental Boots. Standing at an average of 16" tall (the height will change slightly relative to the size of the shoe), these pack an impressive 6 eyelets, 9 speed hooks, another 5 eyelets, and two custom brass buckles to keep them securely on your legs. Brown O'Sullivan cork outsoles and heels provide fantastic grip and comfort, while still cutting a clean, low profile.

The leather is black waxed Gustave cowhide, from the Degermann tannery in France. Degermann is France's oldest leather tannery, with a history going back over 300 years. The hides are combination tanned - combination tanned leathers are finished with both natural vegetable tannins and mineral ones, resulting in a leather with the durability of a veg tan and the softness of a chrome tan. After tanning, the leather is coated with a natural wax, which is heat pressed into the hides, giving additional durability and water-resistance.

This collaboration is highly limited, and will not be restocked.

Our sizing recommendations

CN WIDE Last

The CN WIDE last is between D and E width. It fits very snugly from the waist to heel, with a low instep. We have found that most people are able to wear different sizes in this last, depending on if they prefer a snugger fit or a roomier fit.
  • Narrow and low volume feet:
    • 0.5 size smaller thanBrannock for a snug fit
    • Same size as Brannock for a more relaxed fit (you may need to use insoles, thick socks, or both)
  • D-Width and average volume feet:
    • 0.5 size smaller than Brannock for a snug fit
    • Same size as Brannock for a more relaxed fit (you may need to use insoles, thick socks, or both)
  • E width feet with average volume:
    • Same size as Brannock for a snug fit
    • 0.5 size larger than Brannock for a more relaxed fit

We suggest the Protalus T-75 or Protalus M-75 insoles and Darn Tough Full Cushion Socks.
