An engineer boot that will age beautifully on your motorcycle. The vegetable tanned leather will darken and patina differently on every pair. Every bit of road grime, bug splatter and anything else you encounter on the highway will add to the way these boots look.

Based on a 1930s style engineer boot from the Wesco archives, the Van Cleef features triple needle stitching on the vamp and heel counter, double needle stitching on the top of the shaft, and our favorite - vee stitching on the back stays. We shortened the height to 9" for more comfortable summertime wear. Brass buckles hold the straps together atop a Vibram 700 outsole and heel. Natural vegetable tanned leather will break in and patina like nothing else.

*NOTE* We updated this from the first edition with 1" longer straps and the nordic brass buckles from the 7400.

Learn more about how these are made from Neil's trip to visit the Wesco Factory. The worn photos are from 3 months and 10 months of wear, respectively; showing how the veg-tan leather will break-in and soften. You can't buy'em like that, you gotta DIY it.

Further details

Since their founding by John H. Shoemaker in 1918, Wesco has quietly been building world-class boots at their factory in Scappoose Oregon. Three generations later, they are still owned and operated by the Shoemaker family, despite nearly losing the entire business during the Great Depression.

As with all Wesco boots, these feature a spring steel shank, double layers of leather over the foot and in the heel with leather insoles and midsoles (rather than cork). The leather is "directional" cut, meaning that each piece for each boot is cut from the best part of the hide for that piece, rather than trying to fit the most parts per hide. And, of course, every pair of Wesco boots is fully rebuildable, making them a true investment in footwear.
