The OA01 cut returns to our shop in Ooe Yofukuten's newest lot of denim, the OAXX2. Once again, they've designed a proprietary denim woven at a tiny family-owned mill in Ibara City, Okayama that has the fade characteristics of mid-century denim. It comes in at 13.5oz, with a grey-cast weft, and will wear down to look very much like a 1940's pair of jeans.

OA01 is a medium-high rise cut with a full leg and slight taper, very similar to a 1944 501. The OA-branded buttons are iron; the front rivets are custom branded copper for Standard & Strange; the hidden rivets are copper plated iron. We opted for poly-core stitching for longevity in this batch, and as usual have extended the pockets and leg length.

We're offering complimentary chainstitch hemming for this collaboration. E-mail us with your desired inseam length after ordering. The chainstitch hem may delay shipping by up to 3 days. Unfortunately we cannot accept returns on jeans after they have been hemmed.

These are unsanforized and raw, so they will shrink with a hot soak. Full shrink chart is available under "Size Chart". Expect 2-3" shrink in the waist, with about 1-1.5 of recovery after wearing.

Further details

Everyone’s got their perfect object that they chase. For one of us, long before the shop happened, it was seeking out the perfect pair of jeans. That led us down the inevitable road of Japanese denim, and into the horse-trading world of buying (and selling and swapping) online.

Over time, we learned more about the brand; and about Ryo and Hiro, as more details surfaced. They are true obsessives, also chasing the perfect object. It started with one pair made with a pattern from a cut-up pair of vintage 501s, and quickly escalated into a shop full of pre-1930s Union Special machines. These days, even their denim is made to order for them in Japan.

The word “craft” is tossed around quite a bit in our industry, often being distorted to cover even fully-automated factory production. Ooe Yofukuten couldn’t be farther from that - every garment is made by two pairs of hands, one at a time, all in their workshop in Aichi, Japan.

Many years after coming across that first pair, we are the first stockist of Ooe Yofukuten in the US, and we can’t be more pleased to have them join us.
